Webelos weekend was held on the weekend of the 13th-15th of September. Friday the 13th, the scouts and webelos arrived at Firestone and setup camp. Then they met with their assigned patrol leaders to have dinner which was provided by the adults. I went to webelos weekend and was assigned to be a patrol leader but instead I got to work at a station called fire building. Saturday after breakfast the webelos made a patrol flag, had to think of a patrol yell and a patrol name before they set off to do activities. The scouts who weren’t patrol leaders went to prepare for the upcoming classes being held in the afternoon. When the webelos came to their class we taught them the importance of sharp tools and fire. But the fire class was separate from the sharp tools class because it can be dangerous when taught at the same time. The webelos were well behaved during class. Later after dinner, we had some free time and played a game of football. During the football game one of the boy scouts saw a tarantula and he told the other scouts and webelos to come and see. We didn’t want to hurt the spider but we had to move the tarantula away from the camp so it wouldn’t get stepped on. The scouts and webelos then continued the game and had a good time. After the game we had the campfire. Everyone from webelos, to scouts and adults sang songs and performed skits and all were fantastic. Sunday morning after breakfast all boy scouts took down all the tents and in the mean time the webelos went to a final activity that was about first aid. After the activity the webelos went on a small hike, up a small mountain and some of the boy scouts stayed behind to take down the kitchen and put other equipment back inside the trailer. As the webelos got back from their hike we made a small snack for the end of their hike and then we went home.

Catapult water balloon fun
On August 26, at our weekly meeting, Troop 54 had an awesome time catapulting water balloons from a far distance. Some scouts sneaked up to the other groups and threw water balloons at them. Even though it was for fun, Mr. Masters put a stop to it for safety and because it was best and more fun to catapult water balloons. All in all the scouts had a fun time, and only a few got hit by water balloons. With the weather being so hot, this water activity sure felt great!

Bottle Rockets shoot out
At the August 19th meeting, Troop 54 scouts launched 2 liter bottles in the air, and by only attaching cardboard fins and a nose cone. The scouts were having fun, even the adults. The scouts prepared their rockets for 25 minutes then we filled them up with water and launched them high in the sky. Some went higher than other ones, some rockets were really creative and cool. For example one patrol attached a long ribbon so that when it was launched, it looked like a dragon. By the time we finished we had to police the area to make sure there were no pieces of trash left. All in all it was a fun evening.

Welcome Home Jamboree Scouts!
Welcome Home to all the Scouts and adult leaders from Troop 54 that went to Jamboree! I had the privilege to attend the National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. I must say it was an awesome experience. The first four days we toured Pensilvania and Washington. We went to the Rocky Stairs (that was awesome to run up those stairs!), the Smithsonian Museum, the Spy Museum, Gettysburg and the National Arlington Cemetery. Then on the 5th day, we traveled to the Jamboree to begin our adventures. Our Troop had to set up camp and when we finished we rested and slept to be ready for the next day. There was a welcome show the next morning and then we had the rest of the day to do any activity or patch trading or go to the store and buy souvenirs. Every day you got to do anything like swimming, dragon boating, white water rafting, shooting, rock climbing, BMX, skateboarding, and many more! But for one day your troop had a hike to a mountain, go to a religious ceremony on Sunday, service to the community, and a Technology Quest. On Saturday there was a closing show because I think some troops leave very early and the band 3 Doors Down was there to perform for the closing show. Also most of the time in West Virginia it is hot and humid but every day it rained or had lightning and thunder storms really hard like storms we never see in California! I’m glad we all made it back safely home and we all had the time of our lives.Thank you so much to our Scout Master Mr. Wold and our adult leader Mr.Sanchez. Welcome home Scouts and Adult leaders:).
