Important Boy Scout Leader Training Dates

Boy Scout Leader training is just around the corner in the month of March so mark your calendars!
It is very important that a troop our size maintains qualified, experienced and trained adult leadership in all areas and levels of Scouting. The foundation and core training for Boy Scout Leaders (and interested adults) comes in four parts; New Leader Essentials, Basic Leader Training,  Outdoor Leader Training and Youth Protection.

New Leader Essentials (recently renamed “This is Scouting”) is offered on Wednesday March 17th at First United Methodist Church from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Basic Leader Training is offered on Saturday March 20th also at First United Methodist Church from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Outdoor Leader Training is offered Firestone Scout Reservation on Friday March 26th at 6:00 pm through Sunday March 28th ending at 2:30 pm.

Youth Protection is also a mandatory class for all adults and trained leaders planning on working with the boys. The next Youth Protection class is coming up on on Wednesday April 21st at First United Methodist Church from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

If the two Wednesdays do not work for you there is also the option of doing Online Training for Youth Protection and This is Scouting (New Leader Essentials). Please go to http://olc.scouting.org/ for more information.

Please note: These training events are for all adults interested in working with the Scouts and interested in attending or helping out with outings. It’s not just for leaders.  The classes only come around twice a year, Spring and Fall, so don’t miss out.  Also keep in mind that New Leader essentials is the pre-requisite for Basic Leader Training and Basic Leader Training is the pre-requisite for Outdoor Leader Training, so they really need to be taken in the order that they are offered above.

The Troop, our boys, and myself thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to complete this very important training. So come out, hone your Scout skills, better yourself, become a better role model for the boys and have fun while doing it!

Boy Scouts of America Response to Haiti

Power of Scouting in Haitian Relief Efforts

The news coming out of Haiti is very grave. So many citizens are missing or are in need of immediate care. “Our hearts and prayers go out to those suffering at this very difficult time,” said BSA International Commissioner Jim Turley.

There is one small beacon of hope. World Scouting has been in contact with a member of the Scouts and Guides of France who happened to be in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, during this horrific earthquake. “This Scouter reports that our brother and sister Scouts are helping in the relief effort. No one should ever underestimate the power of Scouting! ‘Be Prepared’ are not just words on a piece of paper. Rather, they are a call to action,” explained Turley.

Agencies trained in disaster relief are already on the ground in Haiti. Additionally, the U.S. is sending military troops and supplies to further assist rescue and relief efforts. But there are still a number of ways members of the BSA can help in Haiti. The biggest need right now is financial resources to purchase emergency supplies; later it will be to help rebuild once the emergency of the coming days has passed.

The most efficient way to meet immediate needs is through your local American Red Cross Chapter. The BSA has a long-standing relationship with the American Red Cross and has every bit of faith that monetary donations will be put to use in the most effective way.

Also the World Organization of the Scout Movement is accepting donations to meet immediate needs.  BSA members may visit their Web site at: http://www.scout.org/en/information_events/news/2010/solidarity_with_haiti .

For rebuilding projects, our members are encouraged to make contributions to the BSA’s World Friendship Fund. All monies collected here will be set aside for future projects requested by the Scout Association of Haiti. To conduct a local fund raising program, contact your local council for World Friendship Fund brochures (No. 130159), posters (No. 22609), coffee can labels (No. 22620), and DVDs (No. 22611).

Roger Schrimp, chairman of the BSA’s International Committee, adds, “At the end of the day, it does not matter how big or small an individual’s contribution is. We all give what we can afford. That’s what we do in Scouting. These are our friends, our fellow Scouts. They need our help. ‘On my honor, I will do my best!’ is a pledge that each of us has taken as a Scout.”

Backpack Tents

Hi:
I will be bringing all 13 of the Troop 54 Sports Authority backpack tents for the Scouts in the event that it is too cold for them to sleep under the tarps. However, the adults will have to bring their own.

I still have three of the Sports Authority backpack tents available for $25 if any of the adults needs a tent to sleep in. If not, I will open it up to the full Troop.

Monday Website Training

On Monday, Jan. 25, there will be a website training for the scouts and any adults who missed the presentation at the parents meeting. After the training, you will know how to be a user, upload pictures and videos, and many more.

hi! my name is paulina castro and i´m scout too, i live in morelia mexico and gary justin melgarejo is my cousin, i know what he finist the course and now he es an eagle, and when his mom and dad comes to morelia in christmas vacations they give to me something scouts things of gary, but i like to see if you can interchange scout things about your troop or scout movement.

here in mexico, the scout movement are so different.. begining whit que uniform colors.. but i really like to be scout and gary are out the scout movement now.

i don´t speak english very well but i try because i wanna interchange scout things for my scout group to you troop…

my scout group name is numbre 32 Ave Fenix, and i´m akela.. the leader.. i´m working with children about 6 to 10 years and i have now about 36 childen in my section… and in february 21 we have here in morelia the more biggest liz flower and is an national celebrate..

i hope you understand me and i hope too you speak spanish..

Junior Leading Trainning

All Scouts attending Junior Leader Training this weekend,
Just a reminder that we would like to try to leave Cal High parking lot (by the arboretum) at 4:30 pm Friday. So try to come a little early.

Please wear your class A uniform and bring your class B. Plus bring your essentials, warm sleeping bag, ground pad, warm jacket, chair, and money for dinner at Farmer Boys.
